Our commitment to digital accessibility, inclusive design and equal access for everyone.
Last reviewed: November 2025
1 Our Commitment to Accessibility
At Blue Bird Aged Care & Disability Services, we believe that everyone should have equal access to digital information and services. As an NDIS provider, accessibility and inclusion are at the heart of what we do.
We are committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to people of all abilities, including those who:
- Use screen readers or other assistive technologies
- Navigate using keyboard only (no mouse)
- Have low vision or colour blindness
- Have cognitive or learning differences
- Use mobile devices or tablets
- Have slow internet connections
This Accessibility Statement outlines the steps we have taken to make our website more accessible, and how you can contact us if you experience any barriers.
Back to Top2 Standards We Follow
Our website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines are internationally recognised standards for web accessibility developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
- Perceivable content (text alternatives, captions, adaptable layouts)
- Operable navigation (keyboard access, sufficient time, clear focus)
- Understandable content (readable text, predictable behaviour, input assistance)
- Robust compatibility (works with assistive technologies)
We also follow best practices from:
- Australian Government Digital Service Standard
- NDIS Practice Standards (particularly Standard 1: Rights and Responsibilities)
- Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth)
While we strive for full compliance, some parts of our website may still be in development. We are committed to continuous improvement.
Back to Top3 Accessibility Features on Our Website
We have implemented the following features to improve accessibility:
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements can be accessed using the Tab, Enter, and arrow keys.
Clear Headings
Logical heading structure (H1, H2, H3) to help screen readers navigate content.
Readable Contrast
Text meets WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
Resizable Text
Text can be zoomed to 200% without loss of functionality.
Alt Text for Images
Descriptive alternative text for all meaningful images.
Descriptive Links
Link text describes the destination (not "click here").
Responsive Design
Works on all screen sizes from mobile phones to large desktop monitors.
Clear Language
Content written in plain English with minimal jargon.
We also use semantic HTML, ARIA labels where appropriate, and skip-to-content links for screen reader users.

Back to Top5 Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, we know that some parts of our website may not yet be fully accessible. We are working to address the following:
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers — we are in the process of remediating these
- Some images may not have sufficiently detailed alt text — we are reviewing and improving these
- Some interactive elements may require JavaScript to be enabled
- Some embedded content from third parties (such as videos or maps) may not be fully under our control
If you encounter a specific barrier, please contact us and we will do our best to provide the information in an alternative format or make improvements where possible.
Back to Top6 Third-Party Content
Our website may include content or links to third-party services and websites, including:
- Google Maps (for location information)
- Social media widgets (Facebook, LinkedIn)
- Video platforms (YouTube, Vimeo)
- Document viewers
We endeavour to select third-party services that are accessible, but we do not have full control over the accessibility of these external services. If you experience difficulty with third-party content, please let us know and we will work with you to find an alternative.
Back to Top7 Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project. We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our website through:
- Regular audits: We review our website regularly using automated tools and manual testing
- Staff training: Our team receives training on accessible content creation and inclusive design
- User feedback: We listen to feedback from people with disabilities and make improvements based on real-world experiences
- Updates and maintenance: We update our content, design and functionality to meet evolving accessibility standards
- New content reviews: All new pages and features are reviewed for accessibility before they go live
This Accessibility Statement is reviewed and updated at least annually.
